Curiosity as a driving force – learning that asks questions and seeks answers.

Many innovative concepts are created where people dare to try something new. Numerous methods have long been successfully implemented in individual kindergartens and schools – but they often remain hidden.

In order to demonstrate precisely this, we have joined forces with School on the move and the PH Vienna we have organized the series get a taste & exchange series.

We visit inspiring educational institutions together and create space for exchange, new perspectives and practical learning among colleagues.

In December, the journey takes us to the Löwenschule Aspern, where children become little explorers in the research workshop. The focus here is not on simply reproducing knowledge, but on amazement, asking questions and finding things out for yourself.

In a class with different learning levels, we experience how self-directed learning can succeed when children are allowed to help shape their day and research, plan and reflect at their own pace.

What makes the Löwenschule’s approach special:

  • Research workshop:
A generously equipped research workshop, which was created 15 years ago and has been continuously expanded, is designed in such a way that children can carry out the experiments themselves. The teacher provides support so that the pupils can experiment with great pleasure.

  • Self-directed and independent learning:
At the Löwenschule, the children work in a Montessori-oriented way. They learn with a variety of learning materials, grasp topics together with other children, at a learning location of their choice and in the so-called “Leisestärke”. According to the motto “To each child their own”, the teachers accompany the children on their way and create a prepared environment to make learning as meaningful as possible.

  • Classes with different learning levels:
All the same thing, at the same time and at the same speed – that was yesterday. At the Löwenschule, children learn differently. Maria Montessori taught that every child needs peace, appreciation, dialog and learning companions who are role models and have their hearts in their mouths in order to achieve “inner and outer order”. Learning can take place where the world is in order.

During the visit, you can expect a glimpse into a lively learning environment in which children take responsibility for their learning path and teachers are companions at eye level. Together, we will reflect on what schools need to create space for curiosity, courage and self-efficacy.

Because get a taste & exchange always means learning from each other and exploring new paths together.
