What does a place like the Education Lab need to really support educators? This question was the focus of our first co-creation session with education professionals from kindergartens and schools – and the exchange was as lively, reflective and practical as we could have wished for.
On April 8, the time had come: for the first time, our space was filled with people who work on the front line every day when it comes to education, support and development. People who grow with children, stick together with colleagues, wrestle with systems – and yet never stop looking for new ways.
The practical perspective
It was clear from the outset that this session would not be a frontal event. It wasn’t about talking about the Lab – but about thinking together about how it can become a place that recognizes real needs, provides new impetus and at the same time becomes a home for the education community.
The session brought together educators from a wide range of educational institutions – from elementary education to upper secondary level. Their diversity was no coincidence, but the key: because it is precisely this mixture of experience, perspectives and professional reality that makes it clear how much potential lies in exchange – across institutions, along an entire educational biography.
Impulses that stay
What we took away from the group were real ideas from real life – well-founded, well thought-out and supported by the desire to make a difference together. The participants did not think in terms of ideal conditions, but in terms of feasible possibilities. They identified challenges – and at the same time levers that could be used to tackle them.
A few key topics that particularly inspired us:
Create spaces for dialog:
The desire for a genuine exchange between kindergarten and school staff was loud and clear. More places are needed where experience can be shared – without evaluation, without competition.
Involve decision-makers:
Many people mentioned how valuable formats would be in which concerns from pedagogical practice could be passed on directly to politicians, administrators or providers – at eye level, in dialog, concretely.
Thinking about connecting biographies:
Again and again, the desire arose to think about education in terms of the reality of children and young people’s lives – not separately according to systems, but as a shared responsibility.
Impulses for everyday life:
Whether time management, team structure or self-care – the Education Lab was also seen as a possible place for further development in one’s own everyday working life. “Not more to-dos, but space for relief and development,” as one participant put it.
Together instead of alone
The co-creation session showed us that educators want to shape things. They want to be heard – but they also want to learn together, benefit from each other and break new ground together. The Education Lab can become a hub for this. A place where ideas from practice are not only collected, but also made visible and passed on.
A lot of the feedback was also about the format itself: The open, informal atmosphere, the respectful interaction, the curiosity about each other – all of this contributed to turning a group of strangers into a group of enablers.
What happens next
It is clear to us that this first session was just the beginning. The impulses, ideas and experiences will flow directly into the further development of the lab – whether in the design of formats, the use of the space or the development of an active community. The participants were not just guests – they are now part of what is being created here.
And if you would like to join us next time: We regularly invite people to open formats that focus on precisely this exchange. Because if there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that good education needs encounters. And places that make these encounters possible.
A huge thank you to all the educators who took part in this first co-creation session. For your courage, your openness – and for already making the Education Lab a place where the future is being created.
