Culture School Workshops: Reflecting, understanding and shaping diversity
The workshops of the Culture School workshops are aimed at teachers who teach in socially and culturally heterogeneous classes. School is understood as a social space in which social inequalities, affiliations and orders of difference are reflected and can be actively shaped.
The aim is to see diversity not as a problem, but as educational potential. Based on social science and anti-discrimination approaches, the workshops combine reflection, knowledge transfer and concrete possibilities for action in the classroom.
Culture School Workshop: Discrimination & racism – what does it have to do with me?
Discrimination and racism are topics that often crop up between the doors in everyday school life – in language, expectations, routines, materials or situations that should “actually be resolved quickly”. And yet there is often a feeling afterwards that there is more to it. What exactly? And what does that mean for my role?
This workshop creates a framework for taking a closer look – in a reflective, structured way and at eye level. It is not just about discrimination as an individual act, but as part of the social and institutional patterns that shape schools. The aim is to develop a clearer language for this, to become more aware of one’s own position and to become more capable of acting in everyday life.

- A joint look at structural and everyday forms of discrimination
- Concepts such as othering and implicit biases understandable and relevant to everyday life
- Reflecting on your own role: Where do I have influence? Where can I start?
- Exchange with other educators – with a focus on concrete next steps for schools and classrooms
For whom?
For teachers, school administrators and all those interested in education who take diversity seriously and want to reflect on discrimination in everyday school life.
The Culture School sees diversity as a superpower and supports teachers, students and guardians in seeing diversity as a positive resource.
Together with them, we are organizing three independent workshops in the Education Lab. The first is on the topic of cultural diversity in schools.
