We invite you to take a look & exchange ideas together with Schule im Aufbruch and the Vienna University of Teacher Education invite you to discover innovative places of learning in Vienna and get into conversation with each other.
What is it about?
Many kindergartens and schools already have exciting approaches, new methods and creative learning spaces. However, these experiences often remain within their own four walls.
We bring them out into the open with a taster & exchange.
We visit places of learning together where innovations are already being put into practice and give teachers, school administrators and educational designers the opportunity to exchange ideas on site. Instead of theoretical concepts, there are real insights into everyday life, exchanges at eye level and impulses for your own everyday learning, with space for joint learning, inspiring discussions and new perspectives.
Who is the program intended for?
For everyone who is active in the education sector, whether in kindergarten, school or beyond. If you want to gain new perspectives, pick up good ideas and exchange ideas with colleagues, this is the right place for you.

Dates for 2026–2027
Visits to schools and preschools offer a unique opportunity to gain insight into day-to-day educational life on site. To make this possible, the institutions invest a great deal of time, resources, and dedication into preparing for and facilitating these visits. Therefore, separate registration is required for each event. Since space is limited, we ask that you cancel in a timely manner if you are unable to attend, so that other interested individuals can take your place. Register together with your colleagues, experience the visits as a group, exchange ideas on-site, and then share your impressions with your team afterward. We welcome everyone who would like to take advantage of this opportunity to gain insights into educational practices on the ground.

Focus: Insights into how students take responsibility for their learning processes within the learning pathways, how the diverse range of educational offerings is organized and structured, and how this diversity is jointly planned and further developed in the weekly “thinking spaces.”

KG/VS Lex Nalis Educational Campus, Rappachgasse 44, A-1110 Vienna
Focus: Insights into the campus model featuring the so-called BIBERs (educational units), which comprise several elementary school classes and preschool groups. The BIBERs form self-contained units with a MUFU—a multifunctional zone used for eating, playing, and group activities.

VS Sek1 Sek2 The American International School, Salmannsdorfer Str. 47, A-1190 Vienna
Focus: Insights into the unique culture and community of the American International School. The visit begins with a student-led weekly assembly in the school theater. Afterward, participants tour the school and its sports and physical education facilities and gain insight into how the American school system’s class schedule shapes school culture and the students’ daily school life.

Vienna Kindergarten – MA 10, Roggendorfgasse 6 (KG) A-1170 Vienna
Focus: Insights into the day-to-day educational activities at the Roggendorfgasse Preschool and the practical implementation of an inclusive environment. The focus is on open-ended activities with children, the participation and rights of children through the “Rights Box,” flexible meal times in the kindergarten bistro, and the meeting and team culture at the location.

Focus: Insights into project-based training for aspiring early childhood educators. During the visit, participants will have the opportunity to observe the “Gemeinsam Stark Werden” project and experience the importance of project-based work in the training program. In addition, the school’s own practice kindergarten will be presented and toured.

GTMS 22 Barbara Prammer School, Leopold-Kohr-Street 6, A-1220 Vienna
Focus: Insights into the Barbara Prammer School as part of the “Demokratieschule Wien” pilot project . The focus is on how students actively participate in shaping daily school life and how democracy is put into practice through student participation and political education in the school setting.

BG 18 Klostergasse (AHS), Wielemansgasse 28, A-1180 Vienna
(current location, Main building is located is in under)
Focus: Insights into the language focus at BG 18 Klostergasse, with English as the language of instruction, and the Dual Language Program (DLP). In addition, the presentation will explore how the lower-grade-level reform is being implemented through project-based and interdisciplinary learning, and how an established peer-review group strengthens professional collaboration and collegial consultation within the teaching staff.
Tuesday, April 6, 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
VS/MS Schule am Himmel, Gspöttgraben 5, A-1190 Vienna
Focus: Insights into project-based learning in multi-grade, inclusive elementary school classes. The presentation will explain how the “Frei Day” teaching concept is implemented and how children work self-effectively on their own projects to build a better future. In addition, participants will learn about the multi-level learning concept and the workshop-based approach at the all-day school.
