Systemic Group Supervision for Educators
Katharina Obererlacher (on behalf of u.S.) and Robin Heinecke (on behalf of u.S.) invite educators to a systemic group supervision session at the Education Lab. This is a space to reflect together on everyday work, learn from one another, and return to school or preschool with new perspectives.
Pause, reflect, think ahead
Everyday teaching is varied, demanding, and often complex. In such situations, it can be helpful to take a step back and, with guidance, view the situation from a distance through systemic group supervision.
This format provides an opportunity to pause briefly, explore topics from everyday school life with the support of a supervisor, reflect on them together, and discover new perspectives.
What’s on your mind right now? What’s challenging you? What’s going well?
Systemic group supervision does not provide ready-made answers or tell educators, “This is how you have to do it.” Instead, it gives educators the opportunity to discuss their concerns in a confidential setting, with skilled facilitation, and to explore them further together.
Through discussions with other teachers and with professional guidance from supervisors, new perspectives emerge, concrete solutions are identified, and we come to realize that we can learn a great deal from one another by discussing individual cases.
Overview and Registration
Participation is free of charge. Since the group is limited to a maximum of 8 participants, we ask that you register in advance. There is a waiting list: If something comes up, please cancel your registration at least 48 hours before the supervision session so that someone else can take your place.
Supervision is a confidential setting: Everything discussed in the room stays in the room. Supervision thrives on participants bringing their concerns, topics, and questions to the table and sharing their perspectives with their colleagues.

What Drives Me
In my opinion, people who work with children and adolescents have one of the most meaningful and responsible jobs in our society. That is why I believe it is especially important in this field to regularly provide professional support and opportunities for exchange. Supervision—as a free and easily accessible service for this professional group—is very close to my heart. Together with the Education Lab, we are taking the first step toward making this a reality.
Katharina Obererlacher, M.A.
My Expertise
Certified teacher of French, mathematics, physical education, and sports. Additional training in German as a Foreign Language (DaF) and German as a Second Language (DaZ), as well as certification as a bouldering and sport climbing instructor. Several years of teaching experience at a Vienna middle school and an academic high school (AHS) in Vienna, as well as experience as a school quality coordinator. Currently working in educational management and active as a supervisor, coach, and organizational developer (in the relevant sense).
My Approach / For Me, Supervision Is…
For me personally, systemic supervision is a valuable resource in my day-to-day work—a place where I can take a step back and look at what I’m doing, invite new perspectives, and let myself be surprised time and again by bouquets of solutions.
My Position
There is no single “right” way—every person is different. Still, it’s often easier to figure out together which direction to take next. I see my role here as providing supportive guidance, creating a safe and empowering space where people can experiment and think big without judgment. The person themselves alone decides what is right or wrong, feasible, impossible, or worth trying.
What Drives Me
In schools, the stress of everyday life is often treated as a private matter. Teachers take their difficult cases home with them and frequently deal with them alone, whereas in other professions, supervision is the norm. I want there to be a reliable, easily accessible space for supervision—one that offers room for reflection and exchange—to expand the range of professional options available for day-to-day work. My greatest wish is to make this format accessible to all teachers on a regular basis. Together with the Education Lab, we’re taking the first step toward making that happen.
Robin Heinecke, B.A., M.A.
My Expertise
Teacher at a Vienna middle school, teaching English, Geography/Economics, and Basic Digital Literacy since 2017; spent the first two years as a fellow with Teach For Austria. Studied International Development at the University of Vienna. Trained in mentoring and school coaching; currently also working as a supervisor, coach, and organizational developer (in accordance with applicable regulations).

For me, systemic supervision is a space where I can step back and view my day-to-day work from a distance. It serves as a tool for reflecting on my professional life, helping me tap into my own resources and find solutions in a playful way.
My Position
Every person is an expert on their own daily work life. I listen with curiosity, ask questions in a respectful manner, and remain open and attentive to everyone involved. I view people’s problems as a starting point for working on solutions and options. It’s up to the individual to decide what they take back with them into their daily work life.
